VESELOVSKY SCIENTIFIC CENTER

FOR MACROMOLECULAR COMPOUNDS

CHEMISTRY

Production and engineering company specializes in exclusive solutions  for building and reconstruction using advanced polymer technologies.

The company's decisions are based on its own scientific developments, created by a team led by Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor Roman Veselovsky.

Our polymers have no analogues in the world and are able to solve the most complex engineering problems when other approaches do not work.

ROMAN VESELOVSKY

Doctor of Chemical Sciences, Professor, Laureate of the State Prize of the USSR and the USSR, Honored Inventor of the USSR

An outstanding Ukrainian scientist, a leading specialist in the field of polymer adhesion research.

Under his leadership, polymer compositions and author's advanced technologies were developed on demand of the USSR defense complex, oil  and construction industries. Theoretical research in these  areas  Roman Veselovsky successfully used in the creation of new polymer composite materials.

Since the early 70's the Institute of Chemistry of Macromolecular Compounds of the Academy of Sciences of Ukraine under the leadership of Professor Veselovsky studied the processes occurring in the formation and destruction of polymeric composite materials -  such as adhesives, coatings, reinforced and filled plastics, foams, biocompatible polymers.

The main task of the research was to determine the ways of regulation of these processes, which made it possible to create polymer composite materials with predetermined properties.

Conducting such research was of great scientific and practical importance.  After all, the similar  materials all over the world were created by selection (trial and error), which required significant costs and a lot of time.

A large number of the Ukrainian and foreign scientific centers, design bureaus, institutes, industrial enterprises were involved in the research -  such as the Institute of Strength Problems, the Institute of Physical Chemistry, the Institute of Physiology, the Institute of Transport Construction, the Institute of Aviation Materials, VNIISPTNeft, VNIIGAZ, Mangal Shipyard (Riga, Latvia), the Academy of Civil Engineering and  of Architecture (Dnipro), Institute of Building Materials (Sofia, Bulgaria), etc.

A team of scientists led by Professor Veselovsky has created a large number of unique materials that are ahead of time and have no analogues in  the world.

Among such materials it is possible to note the biocompatible polymer capable to stick together live tissues of an organism  environment of tissue fluids and over time to be replaced by organized tissue (parenchyma of the kidneys, liver, muscles, nerves, etc.).  This work was awarded by the State  award  of USSR.

Professor  Veselovsky  for the first time in world has created reinforced coatings with the strength of the metal, which can be applied to the metal without thorough cleaning from corrosion in air and in water or in environment of petroleum products at temperatures down to -40 C. With such coatings they restored  bearing  capacity of hundreds of vessels, oil tanks, pipelines, etc. For this study, the authors were awarded the USSR State Prize, licenses for inventions were sold abroad.

For shipbuilding, Professor Veselovsky created an adhesive that allows you to glue insulation to metal covered with a layer of frost. This fire-retardant paint withstood temperatures above 1000 C.

Today, Veselovsky's polymers are widely used both in Ukraine and abroad for  bridges repairs (for example, bridge piers on Rybalsky Island), cooling towers of power plants (CHP 6 in Kyiv), granulation towers (PJSC AZOT, Cherkasy), Ostankino TV tower after the fire, oil platform near the island of Newfoundland, dry dock (Varna, Bulgaria), concrete roads, buildings, etc.

The compositions developed by the research center are produced both in Ukraine and abroad. The results of the research professor Veselovsky described in 150 copyright certificates and patents as well  as in 200 scientific publications.

LABORATORY AND PRODUCTION

Laboratory of the Veselovsky Scientific Center for Macromolecular Compounds Chemistry works at the Institute of Bioorganic Chemistry and Petrochemistry of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine. Production facilities are located in the city of Fastiv in Kyiv region.

SIGNIFICANT PROJECTS

GREAT WALL OF CHINA

The Great Wall of China runs through northern China for almost 9,000 km.

Its construction began the first Chinese emperor Qing Shihuang in the III century BC and it lasted until the end of the reign of the Ming dynasty in the XVII century.

The state program for the restoration of architectural heritage began only in 1984 at the initiative of Deng Xiaoping. In 2011-2012, the last large-scale works took place.

The polymeric composition Silor Ultra F was used for hydrophobization and strengthening of wall cladding, as well as white marble of Forbidden City in Beijing.

OSTANKINO TV TOWER

Television and radio tower in Moscow, which ranks fourth in  the world in height  among the buildings. Its height is 540 meters.

In August 2000, a large fire broke out on the tower.  The center of ignition was at an altitude of 460 m. 3 floors were completely burnt out.

Restoration work continued until 2008. For repair and strengthening of internal surfaces  concrete structures they used polymer compositions developed by professor  Veselovsky.

NORTH MUY TUNNEL

Railway tunnel on the Baikal-Amur highway has been opened on December 5, 2003.

The tunnel got its name from the North Muy mountain range in Buryatia, which it penetrates through. It is the longest tunnel in Russia. The estimated service life of the tunnel is 100 years.

A team of scientists led by Professor Veselovsky developed a unique technology for monolithic soil. Without it the tunnel could not be built. In addition, the polymer compositions helped to quickly stop the groundwater that broke into the tunnel during construction.

DRY DOCK IN VARNA,  BULGARIA

Varna is the largest port complex in Bulgaria. There are 40 berths and 65 electric cranes. Freight turnover is  10 million tons.

There is a large shipyard in Varna. The dry dock for the company was built in 1955 and became the first in Bulgaria. Since then, the plant has repaired about 5,000 ships.

Professor Veselovsky's polymer compositions were used for repairs and anti-corrosion works in the dry dock of Varna.

DNIPRO WATER-POWER PLANT

The largest hydroelectric power plant in Ukraine. Power - about 1600 mW.

Construction of the Dnipro HPP began in 1927. The last reconstruction was carried out in 2006-2008.

Veselovsky's polymers were used to work in the machine compartments №7 and №15 to increase the anti-chemical, anticorrosion and anti-cavitation resistance of the turbine blade, lower connecting belt, and stator columns.

COOLERS OF KYIV POWER PLANT 6

Kyiv Thermoelectric Power Plant 6 -  the most powerful thermal power plant of Ukraine in 2012.

The station provides district heating to industrial enterprises, residential and  administrative buildings of Darnytskyi, Dniprovskyi, Podilskyi, Desnianskyi and Obolonskyi districts of the capital of Ukraine.

In 2002, Veselovsky's polymers were used to restore the surface of the cooling tower, as well as for waterproofing the structures of the power plant water cooling device.

OIL RIG NEAR NEWFOUNDLAND ISLAND

The oil rig was depressurized and water began to flow into the mine. The platform consisted of a metal base and a concrete superstructure with an area of one hectare. The place of contact of the platform and the base is at a depth of 50 cm under water.

Customers set a task to develop a polymer composition for sealing the contact zone.

We created a composition that had a low viscosity and a curing time of about 30 minutes. The composition was pumped through a network of holes in the upper part of the platform. After curing, a sealant with an elongation above 1000% appeared.
